Steve McGarrett, a Lt. Commander and member of the Navy SEALS, returns to Hawaii to avenge his father's death, but when the governor of Hawaii offers him his own criminal investigative task force, he accepts. McGarrett accepts, converts his Naval commission to a reserve commission, and takes over creation of the new task force.
The team is joined by Chin Ho Kelly, Danny "Danno" Williams, and Kono Kalakaua. The special task force becomes known as "Five-0". McGarrett and his team investigate serious crimes on the islands. With Danny Williams as his second in command. McGarrett and his team tackle a range of crimes with more far-reaching consequences than those dealt with by HPD, including terrorism and serious organized crime.
Trivia: The original series was Five-O with the letter "O" while the reboot uses a zero.
