After witnessing his mother's murder and his father's wrongful conviction, Barry Allen is taken in by Detective Joe West and his daughter Iris. Once grown, Allen becomes a crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. Allen's main motivation is to to clear his father's name and free him from prison.
Fourteen years after his mother's murder, the STAR Labs advanced particle accelerator malfunctions during its public unveiling, releasing an unknown form of radiation and creating a thunderstorm. Struck by lightning from the storm, doused with chemicals in his lab, and exposed to the unknown radiation, Allen awakens after a nine-month coma to discovers he has the ability to move at super speed.
Allen soon discovers that he is not the only one who was changed by the particle accelerator malfunction. With the help of friends, Allen uses his new super speed to protect Central City from the new metahuman criminals.
The series is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and premiered in October, 2014. The pilot episode was the second-most watched premiere in the history of The CW.
